Guy "Jack" ANSELL, 62, of Virginia Beach, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1993, in Virginia Beach General Hospital. Mr. ANSELL was born in Knotts Island, N.C. He was the son of the late Benny J. and Marie Smith ANSELL. He was a Baptist and retired from the City of Virginia Beach Public Works Department as a heavy equipment operator. He is survived by his wife, Mildred F. ANSELL; one sister, Madge NEWMAN of Virginia Beach and one brother, Bill ANSELL of Knotts Island. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1993, at 11 a.m. in the Ansell Family Cemetery, Knotts Island, N.C. (The Virginian Pilot September 6, 1993)
Julian Rea ANSELL, 93, went to be with his Lord April 13, 2007. He was born Aug. 23, 1913, on Knotts Island and spent much of his adult life on the island where he operated the Currituck Gunning & Fishing Club for 36 years prior to his retirement at age 75. Julian is survived by his wife of 65 years, Catherine; two sons, Terry ANSELL of Knotts Island and Ralph ANSELL of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Sondra VanSYOC of Knotts Island in addition to his half sister, Jackie OSTEEN of Fort Pierce, Fla.; half brother, Leslie ANSELL of Toledo, Ohio; and step mother, Maybelle PRESCOTT, also of Fort Pierce. Julian is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; mother, Blanche; three sisters, Bertha, Lucille and Betty; and a half brother, Eugene. Julian was a military veteran having served in the U.S. Coast Guard prior to World War II. A service to celebrate Julian’s life will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Knotts Island Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The graveside service and interment will follow at Knotts Island Cemetery. (The Virginian Pilot Monday, April 16, 2007)
Letha Grimstead ANSELL, 78, died October 3 in Virginia Beach General Hospital. She was born March 22, 1918 on Knotts Island to the late Charlie and Nellie Bowden GRIMSTEAD. She was the widow of Fred James ANSELL and a member of Knotts Island Methodist Church. She was a homemaker for her family. She is survived by three daughters: Patricia M. ANSELL of Knotts Island, and Nellie A. TWIFORD and Lind M. PALMER, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; one son, Donald Ray ANSELL of Knotts Island; a half sister, Blanch GRIMSTEAD; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons: Ronald Lee and William B. ANSELL. A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. in Knotts Island Cemetery with the Rev. Willie Jordan ANSELL, 82, of Knotts Island, died Friday night in the Hampton, Va, Veterans Hospital after a long illness. He was a native of Knotts Island , a former deputy sheriff of Currituck County, a farmer and hunting guide and a member of the Knotts Island United Methodist Church. He was the son of the late Caleb B. and Mrs. Elizabeth White ANSELL and husband of Mrs. Emily Dough ANSELL of the home. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Elizabeth WHITE and Mrs. Shirley EVANS of Chesapeake, Va.; five sons: W. Jennings ANSELL of Knotts Island, Philip O. ANSELL and Aubrey V. ANSELL of Virginia Beach, the Rev. George C. ANSELL of Nags Head and Keith B. ANSELL of Orlando, Florida; one sister, Mrs. Easter MARTIN of Norfolk, Va.; two brothers: Carlton ANSELL of Norfolk and Lacy ANSELL of Raleigh; 21 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday in the Knotts Island Methodist Church by the Rev. LaMar SENTELL, pastor. Burial followed in the Knotts Island Cemetery. (The Coastland Times December 30, 1976)

Elizabeth City Independent. Friday - March 26, 1920; pg. 16 HENRY B. ANSELL DEAD - Currituck County lost one of its oldest and best known citizens last week in the death of Henry B. ANSELL, age 88 years, at his home at Barco. His death followed an attack of influenza. Mr. ANSELL was a native of Currituck County, born on Knotts Island, and had lived in Currituck all his life. In his earlier days he was a prominent, influential and active figure in the county's affairs and served as Clerk of Superior Court on his county for several years. He is survived by his wife and several children including the distinguished Lt. Colonel Samuel T. ANSELL of Washington, D.C.
